Schulze-Mittendorff has a strong connection to his mother, Agnes Anna Pauline, née Mittendorf. Later on, in 1920, he will add her name to his, and call himself Schulze-Mittendorff. The spelling of the name with the double ff at the end goes back to his maternal grandfather, Joseph Mittendorff, the notation as such being documented. Agnes Schulze lives until 1955, three years longer than her husband.
