2. The Metropolis Robot – a Work of Art
The face of the Metropolis Robot – simultaneously present and removed – reveals the expression of a timeless spirit.
In creating the design for the Metropolis Robot the artist Walter Schulze-Mittendorff followed his intuition. As in every great artwork in the Metropolis Robot there is that indwelling touch of infinity captured by the artist's absolute presence in the moment of its creation.
Such a work of art exceeds its form and radiates a vibrancy proceeding from the moment of its birth; this endows it with the flavour of timelessness and it will therefore remain vibrant for generations to come, motivating reproduction. The Metropolis Robot also bears witness to this phenomenon.
This moment of creation is unique and it is for this very reason that it is virtually impossible to replicate the work of art exactly for a second time, even if this were intended. When an existing artwork is being recreated, the creativity of the current artist in the presence of the new moment will connect with the inner vibrancy of the existing work.
